House Prices Are Up

Minneapolis St Paul Business Journal reports that the Twin Cities have seen a climb in housing prices this month. It’s the second month we’ve seen a rise – but experts seem to think that this may only be a seasonal bump…
Home prices across the nation and in the Twin Cities increased for the second consecutive month in May, according to a report released Tuesday.

But the report writers fear the good news is temporary.

Twin Cities prices were up 2.6 percent in May when compared to April, second only to Boston’s 2.7 percent increase, according to the latest Case-Shiller Home Price Index of 20 metro markets by Standard & Poors.

Disposing of Hazardous Waste

According to RIS Media
It’s estimated that every American home has an average of 100 pounds of hazardous household waste. This includes everything from paint and thinners to used motor oil, pesticides, bleach, cleaners and even batteries. Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs) are also considered hazardous waste due to the small amount of mercury they contain.
Dumping hazardous waste down the drain Is not a good solution – even if that drain is in the basement or backyard.

Big news for borrowers

According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune
Wells Fargo & Co. has agreed to pay $85 million to settle civil charges that it falsified loan documents and pushed borrowers toward subprime mortgages with higher interest rates during the housing boom.
So how many people might be involved?
Between 3,700 and roughly 10,000 people could be compensated under the settlement, the Fed said. The payments will likely range from $1,000 to $20,000.
What does it mean?
Federal regulators and state attorneys general are meeting with banks to try and strike a settlement that will significantly change the mortgage industry, forcing lenders to modify more mortgages and provide greater protections for borro
wers. A final agreement is not expected for several months.
