Minneapolis/St Paul for starting over
Minneapolis – St Paul ranks in Top Twenty Place to Start Over, according to Relocation.com. So what did they look at to determine the top twenty? They looked at city ‘popularity’ based on consumer requests for moving quotes to move to that city; economic-growth prospects; home affordability; and the strength of a community as reflected by volunteerism rates.
We scored particularly high on volunteerism rates and home affordability. Popularity wasn’t as high – but now that summer is here we can work on that one.

A Great Place to Buy Bread!!

No you didn't read this wrong. I have discovered a great place to buy Artisan breads at a greatly reduced price. It is actually the same breads that you will find in your local grocery store. These are the "extras" that have been frozen and now are sold to the public.
The trick is you never know what they are going to have to sell, but all their breads are delicious!! Some days you will find a whole grain, chocolate bread (it is soooo good), cranberry walnut, garlic-olive, baguettes, you just never know.
It is located off University and 73rd in Fridley. Directions are: University north of 694 to 73rd, west on 73rd to Commerce, north about 100 ft to sign on left that says "outlet store". Turn right when you get into parking lot and go to the back of the building. They are open 10-4, Monday through Friday, and the loaves are 25 cents to $1.00. A great deal!!

Home Buying Incentives
Communities are finding creative ways to entice home buyers to pick their homes. TwinCities.com reports, “Some buyers in West St. Paul will be eligible for perks like free cable, Internet access and a golf membership — courtesy of the city — for one year under a vacant property program officials approved this week as a way to woo potential homebuyers. Coupled with a $2,000 no-strings-attached grant, the city's incentives will top $3,300.”
St Paul has a program that provides perks to first time home buyers who are also hometown heroes, such as military veterans, members of the U.S. armed forces, firefighters, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, health care workers and certain public sector employees.
Ramsey County is offering a deferred loan program for foreclosed homes in Little Canada and Maplewood.

Foreclosured sales are declining
According to the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors, the number of foreclosures and short sales that are for sale in the Twin Cities housing market is falling quickly. The drop can be attributed in part to flattening new foreclosure and short sale listing activity, but mostly it is related to heavy home sales spurred by the likes of plunging mortgage rates, a federal $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers and record affordability.
Lender-mediated home values are dropping quickly, while traditional homes are fairing better. The median sales price of lender-mediated homes in Q1 2009 was $122,900, a decrease of 21.7 percent from the same time last year. The median sales price for traditional homes was $212,000, a drop of a quieter 3.6 percent.

Happy Gardening
It is just about that time of year when all of us gardeners are anxiously waiting to get out in our gardens. Since moving into my home four years ago I have become an avid perennial gardener. I had always had my share of hostas, but I finally have a place where I can have a true perennial garden. That means I have a variety of plants that come up every year.
It is always a surprise to see which ones have endured our winter and which ones I will have to replace. When planting perennials you have to be careful to buy ones that will grow and survive our cold weather. They are labeled according to zones and you must find ones that are hardy in our zone. As I look out my kitchen window I see the remnants of last year’s garden and soon will be out there raking away the dead leaves and plant parts and waiting to see signs of life as the temps rise and the sun get stronger.
